The Window

I sit here at my window on a gloomy day

listening to Gershwin and the sounds from outside.

There are children for whom the weather means nothing

I hear their delightful laughter today being a Sunday.

Re: Movie Reviews

Okay so obviously I am not a blogger since I never write.
Recent movies seen:
1. In Her Shoes- Definitely one of the nicest feel good movies in a long time. It is a mixture of chic flicky and feel goody and is shot in Philadelphia. It was awesome to just see certain buildings and know exactly where they are, see my local grocery store, park. Maybe that is why I liked it. Probably the reason I liked it is because it has Cameron Diaz sayshaying all over in wonderful attire. She was awesome for the part of the sister gone wrong. Toni Collete is also great in her part of the elder sister who lives in a fancy Rittenhouse Square apartment, is a lawyer in a city firm and has tons and tons of shoes!!!!! (Hence the name of the movie). It is based on the novel by Jen Weiner of the same name. I have not read anything by her, but maybe after seeing this one mindless evening in winter I will find myself reaching for Good in Bed.
2. The house of the flying daggers- The cinematography in the movie was expected to be stunning based on just watching Hero his previous movie. And of course the movie is made by Yimou Zhang who has made a ton of movies. That said I think this movie suffers from the same thing which made The Hero very watchable but ultimately dissatisfying. Sure it has Ziyi Zhang, and she is spectacular. Ultimately this movie has very little to do with the House of the Flying Daggers and all to do with a doomed love story.
3. The Great New Wonderful- This was a movie made by Danny Leiner, who has also directed ' Harold and Kumar go to White Castle'. That was the primary reason I rented the movie and was expecting something mindless, but in fact was pleasantly surprised when I saw a smart Woody Allenesque movie about 5 different stories of New Yorkers. It is supposed to be set around 11th Sept 2002, and all the stories are about accepting and expressing emotions. The depressive characters in the movie might make one think this is a depressing movie, but in the end I think it is all about expressing the cause of the depression and breaking through and leading happy lives. This is not a feel good movie, but I enjoyed watching this movie.
